My second grade students have never experienced a normal school year due to the affects of COVID-19. This has caused my second graders to miss out on crucial academic and social-emotional learning. Despite these challenges that are beyond their control, I have watched my brave, resilient, and hard working students push hard to learn in one year what they should have had the liberty of learning in three. These request resources will amplify the learning in my classroom in two ways. The first way will enable students to have experience with technology and coding that will not be possible without this project. Many of my students are creative thinkers and problem solvers. Coding engineering, and science are incredibly intriguing and exciting to them, but are least often explored due to their expensive nature. As my students have gotten the chance to practice coding principles through their Chromebooks it has helped many of them to expand their horizons and believe in their futures. It has been incredibly meaningful to see students shift their mindset and see themselves in these important positions, to see themselves as college graduates, and successful adults. They are beginning to see how much they matter, how wide the world is, and the possibilities and potential that are theirs to have through education. The second way the requested resources will amplify my classroom is through providing engaging, focused, and interactive materials to help students as they work to catch up in their reading. I plan to use these activities during our structured growth time. These activities will maximize mine and the students' time by allowing them to get the targeted practice they need coupled with the interactive and immediate feedback, while I can work in one on one or small group settings. I am excited to begin!
