With the influence of COVID-19, my students have more of a desire to turn towards electronics than books. The virus kept a substantial portion of these children's lives indoors and, often, with electronics. Because of this, they are growing up with less experience with books and aren't discovering the joy and skills that emerge through reading. My students deserve to find themselves in their reading. I can tell them each day how amazing reading is, but they will never truly believe me until they discover it for themselves. I want them to learn how to choose books that interest them, and learn how to read in a comfortable, encouraging environment. This pandemic has impacted many lives, but these children are growing up with this world being their normal. If they're able to develop a love for reading, they can immerse themselves in stories that can take them everywhere they could possibly imagine.
