Imagine your brain is feeling like fireworks are going off. You have no way to escape or focus on anything else. Special needs kids are often struggling on how to recognize, communicate, and deal with their BIG emotions... like fireworks exploding inside their little bodies. I take pride in creating an atmosphere where they can talk about their feelings, as hard and dark as they may be, while feeling loved, safe, and respected. I am thrilled to be able to provide, with your help, a safe place where this can all take place. With the supplies that are donated I will be creating a calm down area for student to return back to a state of mindfulness. They will have a safe corner where they will be able to use their senses to ground themselves and be able to better communicate their needs. Eyes: Wave projections, bubble tube, and bubble timer Nose: Aroma therapy with the diffuser Touch: Weighted materials, textured materials like the rug and bean bags, and the puppy and it's heartbeat. Ears: noise cancelation if needed, music if needed, and the puppy's heartbeat. Once they have been able to ground themselves they will be able look through the flip book and communicate their emotions with me. That will allow them to calm their brains to make room for learning.
