In 2019, we were one of the first schools to go to at-home learning, and students stayed at home much longer than other Utah schools, almost a full year. The impact on our community was disastrous. In the spring of 2021, my students and I built a garden, which has been remarkably successful in its first year. My students need to engage in Meaningful Work with their peers, to break their Covid-19 isolation and depression. Building and working together outside in the garden has been doing that for them. My students are more cooperative, more motivated, have stronger community bonds, and have even reported working in the garden to help with symptoms of depression and anxiety that skyrocketed during the lockdown. I have never seen high schoolers respond so positively to any activity in my entire career. This garden is central to our mission of helping students to be happier, more successful, more cooperative people. Help us to continue to build it even better, with boxes, sprinklers for our greenhouse, gloves, and tools.
