Studies show that phonemic awareness (the ability to recognize and manipulate sounds and letters) is the most important indicator of later reading success. I will use these materials with small groups of students who need to practice basic literacy skills. They will use these kits to practice identifying letter names and sounds, building and blending words, and creating and writing those words. I have chosen these materials based on the most recent research on brain development. They will allow students to practice literacy in a hands-on way that evidence shows will help their skills improve!
