Many of the lessons in my classroom involve hands-on materials and simple school supplies. At our school, there is a lot of sharing and a lack of resources to complete all the science and math projects at the same time. My grade level has to strategically fall behind our pacing guides in order to make sure we will have access to the resources on the day we are teaching. I would love to be able to provide math manipulatives to every student to explore their learning and deepen their understanding the way the new i-Ready program is designed to. By getting these extra resources, I can give my students several strategies to solve one math problem and widen their understanding of each lesson. I would love to be able to have the math manipulatives available to them to use at any given time. The resources will give them a chance to explore any and all solutions with hands-on activities. This will help them thrive. The science resources I am requesting will give my students an opportunity to look at a phenomenon and use their actual hands and real-life data and experiences to make sense of it. The simple school supplies will be used for note taking, highlighting data, and marking their whiteboards with new and changing information as they explore these phenomenons. I want them to be able to measure the temperature of the heat they create by rubbing sticks together instead of watching a video of someone else doing it. These items will help my students ‘put their own scientist caps on’ and learn through inquiry which has proven to deepen and solidify their understanding. My students want the world and I would love your help in giving it to them!
