COVID-19 has taken a toll on excitement and motivation in my students. My students have a lackadaisical attitude toward math. I have been trying to create activities and projects that have 'disguised' math into being fun. This way, students are able to remove the ideas that 'math is boring' and 'math is hard' and enjoy learning math. I have only done a couple of activities and projects so far this year, but one of the things that I have seen as we do those is an increase in enthusiasm and full engagement of students! I have seen students start to like math and start to enjoy math class. When I see student engagement during math, I see a miracle! The books will help give me ideas of what other activities and projects I can incorporate into our classroom. The laminator machine will make games reusable and more sturdy. The tickets and rewards will drive motivation and have students feeling more successful with actual objects instead of just a letter grade. The whiteboards will allow for more effective instruction when learning slope and graphing lines. The hands-on learning that comes from all of these items will benefit students in a way that hasn't before. It will especially help the integration of special education students in the general education classroom. It will also increase unity as students communicate and work with one another. I am very excited to see the miracle of student engagement continue as I create a learning environment where students can succeed.
