Students are tired of doing their learning on a computer after all of the online work. They want to experience science and experience their learning through their own eyes and hands instead of through worksheets and power points. The easiest way to spark interest in students is to present them with interesting phenomena for them to experience individually in their own hands. Demonstrations are not as effective as giving the students the opportunity to experience these phenomena individually. We then explore what is causing it and that makes them interested in learning more about what is happening. In the 2020-21 school year students were not allowed to do group work or touch science materials that other students were also using. This stopped them from having the opportunity to do a lot of the types of things that we normally allowed them to do in science. They need to learn to work together, to ask questions, to explain their reasoning behind their ideas -the supplies I requested are for creating these phenomena that they can observe. I want to get supplies for students to be able to do hands-on labs this includes shelving for growing plants and learning about plant growth (I was able to already get growing lights and just need the shelves to attach them to) scales for the chance to do labs in groups instead of them being a demonstration, bed glasses, diffraction glasses and upside-down glasses to help explore and discuss ways that light changes when it goes through a medium as well as an egg incubator for the students to be able to see animal growth and how food affects the mass of the animal.
