This will provide needed reading materials to help the students become better readers and close the gap on the learning time that has been lost. Many of our first grade students lost valuable exposure to classroom learning during the critical early learning stages of reading due to COVID-19. They have not developed the foundational skills such as phonemic awareness, letter identification, blending sounds and high frequency words that are so critical to taking on literacy. These reading materials will help develop the necessary foundational skills and apply them to text reading.
