Recently, there has been a push in education to provide digital materials in place of printed text. COVID-19 has bolstered this push as students often have to learn from home with limited access to hard copy materials. While the effort to put devices into each and every student's hands (one-to-one initiative) in our 21st-century e-culture is understandable, perhaps even admirable, research shows that people are better at digesting printed material. The very act of holding a book and turning the page creates a multi-layered spatial and tactile experience that cannot be substituted. Somehow, students' understanding and connections increase with printed materials in hand. With this knowledge, I am hoping to rebuild the book culture in my classroom, and hopefully, at my school. My biggest hope is to have enough copies of books in a multitude of genres so that my students and I can have shared learning experiences away from the blazing blue lights of our screens.
