In my classroom, my students are one-to-one with their iPads. They love them and use them daily. Students have been able to create and collaborate together with other students on some incredible things. My class, although only in third grade, uses their iPads for learning in all subject levels. One thing that my students are required to complete with fidelity is state-mandated literacy and math programs. We, for example, use Lexia for Literacy development and I-Ready for math progression. These programs are great, however, without effective headphones, the noise and distractions from these programs make it nearly impossible for students to focus on their own learning because of what is happening on their neighbor's iPad. In addition to the state sites that we use, my students will have the opportunity to listen to math lessons and other instructional videos that I have recorded and uploaded to canvas. This is critical for students that need to review specific concepts after the initial classroom instruction has been given. It is a daily occurrence that I have a student re-watch instruction to solidify concepts. It is also not uncommon for a student who has been absent to watch videos from previous days to catch up to the class. Currently, my class has been using dollar store headphones; however, there is not a day that goes by that I don’t have a student at my side requesting new headphones as the ones they have just aren’t working. I seriously should have stock in dollar tree headphones!
