Kindergarten students learn best through play! By mimicking what they see adults do, children learn about the world around them, how to solve problems, and how to take care of others and themselves. Students today need play more than ever. They need to take breaks from screens and have time to play with friends and toys that will spark their imaginations. I have requested a fire station, play kitchen, and dollhouse so my kindergarten students will strengthen social skills, expand oral language skills, and develop creativity and imagination. These play toys will support students in language, math, and social studies learning standards. Playing with peers will also help our English language learners learn vocabulary for many objects and appropriate situations in which to use words and phrases. Playing encourages students in peer collaboration, communication, and critical thinking--all essential skills our district highly values.
