Many of my students struggle in reading. They are significantly (2 years or more) behind. By providing a low level but high interest magazine, the students will first, increase their reading skills, and then second be aware of the world around us. Scholastic does an amazing job of taking the current events and presenting them in a way students can understand and relate to. By providing this material for my students, doors will open for them; connections will be made. Reading about a current event in my room will allow them to participate in the discussions in another. They will also have the option of taking the magazine home with them and sharing it with their family as well. Students will have the opportunity to increase their lexile level, make connections with the current events and world around them, as well as share it with their family.
