The trampoline and hopscotch will help my students heal their hearts and minds. They will use the resources and jump on the trampoline between small group instruction subjects as well as for their specified sensory diets, and they get that input from the bouncy bands while we are giving instruction. Many of my students are very anxious because of family situations, COVID 19, and an overall uncertain world. Our occupational therapist, myself and our school counselor agree that these kids need to move because of their unique challenges that they face on a daily basis! If these items were in my room, they could get that stress release from the movement and be better prepared to learn during small-group instruction. When we see students being anxious during small-group instruction, we sometimes actually take them outside to play or hopscotch and they tend to calm down rather quickly. It would be such a blessing to just have these items, like chair bands and fidgets, right there in our room so they can get right to it, no matter the situation or the weather, and when they are done they can get right back to learning. My special education students have more difficulties in school than non-disabled students and they need that feedback that only movement can give. They would benefit greatly with the opportunity to move between subjects and when they need a brain break. Movement is a quick way to release stress!
