The students that are a product of COVID-19 learning, have had their time and resources limited in the classrooms and at home. They have not had the opportunity to process what has happened to them, academically and socially, in a way that will help them learn and grow. I believe that giving them literature, both fiction and nonfiction, that helps them make that connection to emotional and social empathy, will make them better readers and writers as they move forward into their remaining years in high school. Did you know that the more that a student reads, by page number and word count, their academic performance directly increases? More books in the classroom will help students perform better in many aspects of their lives. More books, Wiser Minds, Better Hearts. Thank you for your contribution to the students in this 9th grade English classroom.
