Developing technical reading skills is essential for every student. Developing a love for reading is just as important and valuable. Providing students the opportunity to read a wide range of quality books on topics they are interested in is one of the best things a teacher can do for their students. I have chosen the books on my list with the specific needs and interests of my students in mind. Instead of being assigned specific books to read as a class. I allow my students to choose their own books to practice reading skills, write weekly reflections in a reading journal, and complete a monthly book project. As I have moved away from assigning my students specific books to read and have allowed them to choose their own books I have noticed my shelves needing more of some genres and have had requests from students for specific books. They will be so excited to receive so many new books for our classroom library. The headphones are for students who would like to listen to audio books. Audio books have been a great resource for my struggling readers to access books that they are not yet able to read on their own. The noise cancelling headphones are to help my students who need a little extra help focusing on thier reading.
