I will use these Caldecott Award winning books to teach my students about various art mediums and techniques. My students and I will will also focus on how illustrators enhance the storyline of a book through the choices they make when creating their illustration styles. Students are allowed to take beautifully illustrated books home while studying both the art and the theme of the book. We discuss why we believe the illustrators received the Caldecott award. We will practice writing strong 'main ideas' in concise, well-written sentences after reading our Caldecott picture books.
