My students have only known COVID Learning because I am a First Grade teacher. The children have only known wearing masks and not seeing the expressions of others around them, social distancing without touching anyone, and expecting to make academic gains without all of the intervention norms in education. Covid has changed my students. In fact, students across the US were found to be significantly affected mentally during COVID, with many showing borderline abnormal anxiety (22.4%) and depression (33.8%) symptoms. The learning process was also found to be negatively affected, as reported by 54.0% of the students. My goal and project is too reduce the anxiety in the classroom by allowing my students to "earn" a beanie baby to keep at their desk as a learning friend. My second goal is too allow my students to fidget with their toys to enable them to remain in their classroom and complete their assignments. Please support my students in helping them gain the academic and mental freedom while in a global pandemic. Thank you!
