As an English teacher with Dyslexia, I know firsthand how life-changing the right books can be for my students. Many of my students have varying levels of reading abilities and challenges. It was through the book Hatchet that I was able to gain the love of reading, which sparked in me the ability to overcome my reading challenges in order to visit worlds, gain empathy, and expand my small-town viewpoints. I know that COVID-19 has really limited my students' ability to travel, etc. However, I hope by gaining these new novels, I can build a classroom library that can give them someplace to go, even if they have to stay where they are. Reading is so important within my classroom. I would love to have the support to enhance their world and show them that through reading anything is possible!
