The Elephant and Piggie books are favorites of our emerging readers here at our elementary. They are constantly being checked out, and because they are so well loved many of them are starting to show extensive wear and tear. I am always sorry to have to tell a students that the book they are looking for is checked out and I would love to be able to give my students a new copy of these books in both English and Spanish. These books are wonderful for engaging children and teaching them the basics of reading. Each page has a small amount of dialog along with pictures that show expressive faces and body language which helps the students decode (sound out and understand) the words on the page. These books include plenty of word repetition and are written in a fun and conversational style. They are great for reading out loud with other students or at home with parents and siblings.
