Elementary students spend a lot of time in class, focused on learning. Students, and teachers, look forward to a chance to change up the scenery and get moving. However, some days we just can't go outside for recess/physical activity time. On those days, I prefer my students to have access to activities that do not require a screen but require interpersonal skills. Board and card games hold lots of opportunities for speaking and listening, problem-solving, cooperation/team building, along with skills that support classroom curriculum content. Card and board games build letter, reading, number, and math fluency on top of being a fun way to engage with friends.
