First grade is a crucial year to learn how to read. Every day in my class I try my best to teach my students how to read, how to comprehend what they are reading and how to enjoy a book. Being a 6-7 year old and be sitting in the same position all day long can be very bored. That is why I am convinced that having flexible seating in my classroom will help them to be more engaged on what they are doing. Right now I just have regular plastic chairs and when it is time for independent reading they either sit on their desks or on the floor. I can't wait to have a classroom with different options for seating and students smiling and engaging while reading.
