As an ESL teacher, it is not easy finding ways for the studnets to connect to the white washed history that has taken over textbooks. I am looking to provide my students with more opportunities to see themselves represented in History, not just as victims or the bad guys, but as the hero. As a social justice educator, my practice is built on providing ALL my students with the means to be successful and that starts with creating a space where their stories can be seen and heard. When the studnets see their communities represented in the stories being told, they gain a bit confidence and pride in who they are.
