In Sioux Falls, we use an investigations based curriculum to teach math. Students are given opportunities to come to logical mathematical conclusions based on things they already know. This type of learning is beneficial to students as they are more likely to retain information they discovered on their own. In our volume unit, students will use Geo Solids to see the relationship between volumes of various geometric solids. The formula for each geometric solid begins with the area of a circle and builds. As students have the opportunity to see the application of volume formulas in real-life, they will understand how the formulas work.
