We are a public school which is greatly underfunded like most public schools so we are always looking for ways to bring more classroom supplies to our school. Teachers already spend so much of their own money on classroom materials, and I am asking for basic classroom materials to help make my teacher life and the learning life of my students easier. For children of low income families, having adequate school supplies can drastically help pave a path to a successful future. Imagine a child struggling and being teased by other children for not having what they need in class. They might feel ashamed or like they don’t belong. They might feel embarrassed asking to borrow a pencil or paper every day. This is why having school supplies is so important and why I am asking for items like notecards, markers and supply organizers. If I am going to bring an engaging academic lesson to life, I need supplies and consumables to do just that. If we as teachers are not provided the necessary tools or have them at our disposal, kids simply cannot learn. Children have to be equipped with what they need in order to have a better learning experience. The stress of feeling left out and different can lead to lack of focus. Being prepared with materials keeps children motivated and excited. Studies show that children having school supplies of their own can improve grades, creativity, attitudes towards learning, behavior, peer relationships and self-image. Education is the first step to overcoming poverty. A single pack of pencils and paper could be the gateway to a bright promising career. It is crucial to make sure the leaders of the future are prepared today in schools.
