My students love to create! Even as they learn the technical aspects of audio production, they are all artists and designers at heart. While they do enjoy learning about microphones, mixers, and speakers, and how to mix and record, they thrive when they are creating. Up to this point, as it relates to sound design, especially music, they have had to source from online platforms or rely on their musician friends. However, most students already possess the artistic ability and design esthetic to write and produce their own musical and sound elements. Where they fall short are the resources within the classroom. With the addition of Apple Logic Pro X music creation software and MIDI keyboard controllers, students will have at their access a computer music and sound design lab that is readily available everyday. With the addition of such a lab, each class meeting will be an opportunity to walk into a space where individual creativity and collaboration will be at the forefront of their educational experience. Access and opportunity. These are what will make the difference in their artistic and pre-professional development.
