Kingman and Heritage Islands, The Anacostia River and the US Arboretum are all within a bus ride and short walk from our school. These Adventure Packs will make it easier for students to organize their materials, observe nature and help students become environmentally conscious citizens. Being outside in nature is new to some of my students but making trips to the wild areas in Washington, DC inspires them to write, draw, and ask questions about the world. My second graders love writing and drawing about native birds, trees, aquatic creatures, and insects at wild areas within our city.
