LEGOs help BUILD relationships, LEGOs help build quality time, and LEGOs help build mindfulness and emotional regulation! Students who come into my office come in with a list of baggage, heartache, and pain. Most of it is beyond their control and with the pandemic, we have seen a huge surge in behaviors in school. So I was surprised that one of my most challenging students was drawn into LEGO time. When kids work in my office with LEGOs it helps them to deescalate and I can process with them so much better when their minds are busy and engaged. The only problem is I just have one box and no plates from them to build their creations on. Some students love their creations so much that they do not want to take them down but unfortunately since I do not have enough they have to come down and be placed back into the box. LEGOs are not just a toy they are an awesome tool and I hope that by gaining more I can continue to build upon and engage the students even more.
