Students will use greenhouses to start seed pods for our hydroponic towers. This will allow students to take home fresh vegetables, maintain hydroponics, identify plants, contribute to a food bank, and collect data. Greenhouses are also a great tool for teaching about rare and tropical plants like cacao, the chocolate tree which demands special soil conditions and has a shrinking growing region. Students will grow the seedlings and use this information to understand the need for chocolate sustainability as it is related to climate science, fair trade and child/slave labor.
