This project serves many purposes and helps teach students the following: 1. the biochemistry plants need to grow healthy, which includes cycling of matter and composition of nutrients in soil, 2. photosynthesis, as it supports carbon sequestering that helps reduce greenhouse gases, 3. the energy and macromolecules we consume for cell function, 4. reduction of carbon footprint through local food production, 5. supporting community needs through permaculture, 6. recycling of organic matter through composting, 7. and recapturing rainwater to reduce loss of water in an urban communities. - This is an exciting opportunity for students to learn biology concepts hands-on.
