Due to COVID, the majority of the students in my class were not able to attend any in-person day care or preschool. For many of them, this is their first experience in a school setting and they are still learning how to be a student. Sitting still or staying at their seats has been a challenged for many of them as kindergarteners have very short attention spans and need constant movement. I would like to help calm the wiggles and offer alternative seating options to my students to help keep them focused and engaged in their learning. Through the cushions, wobble chairs, and balance balls, my students can keep their wiggly bodies moving without being a distraction and hopefully more motivated to stay at their seats. I've also created a special spot in my classroom to be a safe oasis for individual students to go to whenever they are overwhelmed or experiencing "big feelings." This will be a safe place for them to calm down. I would like to add some sensory items to that space for my students to play with to help calm their nerves. The liquid motion bubbler is a great therapeutic toy that provides visual stimulation for calming and stress relief.
