What six and seven-year-olds don't love to be outdoors, especially on a day full of sunshine? The students in my class with multiple special needs are just like their typical peers when it comes to being part of the world outside of the classroom. For most kids with physical and health needs, the outdoors is not always an easy place to get and navigate while there. My classroom has a small outdoor space that with some proper seating and materials has the potential to be an awesome extension of our classroom. A quiet place to sit and look at a book or hear a story; a place to feel the sun and breeze while simultaneously creating artwork; a comfortable place when a break is needed from the hectic environment of the classroom; a place to be alone for a bit and just hang out.
