Flexible seating is a perfect way to allow students to take charge of their learning and help them create a positive working environment for themselves. In my class, I actively promote the idea of a positive environment for students, and allowing students the choice in where they sit has greatly improved their engagement in class. My next goal is to help provide additional resources that students can use to make their new flexible seats as conducive as possible to their learning needs. Currently, my classes are focused on standards like NVAC 22.9-12.US.26 and SS.9-12.US.18, which help them learn and understand how diverse groups experience different socio-economic issues and are often denied opportunities, both institutionally and informally. I greatly believe students need the opportunity to experience education in a matter of different ways, and by letting them move around and explore the classroom they are more willing to discuss and talk about the material.
