Adam Hochschild's "King Leopold's Ghost" is an extraordinarily important history text. By providing a class set of these books, students will be able to engage in an all-class read, focused on the impacts of European imperialism on the people of West Africa and the effects of the colonial mindset on the Europeans themselves. By approaching the topic together, students will also have the ability to discuss the book's content and themes as a class, write about their learning and compare it with other students' experiences, as well as rely on a community of learners who are tackling the same academically and culturally challenging material.
