My learners spend the entire 4th quarter delving into the world of geometry. Hands-on creations of 2-dimensional shapes to assemble into 3-dimensional objects are by far the projects that interest my learners the most. Learners will be constructing a project of their own creation using the 2-dimensional shapes cut to build a 3-dimensional project. This project will be built by having students use a Cricut machine to cut out shapes for students to fold into 2-D & 3-D. These created composite shapes are used to measure volume and surface area. In 6th grade, we focus on simpler shapes, but by the time they are in 8th grade, we are building cities, roller coasters. Collaboration is a must when engaging in hands-on projects but because of Covid-19, individual supplies are needed. Supplies needed include the requested cardstock, the Cricut mats, and the magnetic set. This requires more supplies than in the past. These supplies will help learners achieve learning Nevada math standards while peaking and keeping their interest.
