I love my 6th graders! We do a lot of writing projects in groups or clusters so each child is able to contribute their expertise knowledge in whatever context we are talking about at the time. When we work in groups we use a lot of sticky notes in which the kids add to graphic organizers that I create on jumbo sized sticky pages. I go through quite a number of pencils and don’t want kids to have to get frustrated or struggle because they don’t have the basics when they come to school. Since we write a lot it is necessary to have a couple good working sharpeners in our classroom, and mine are simply worn out. One neat PBIS positive behavior instruction strategy our school uses is Bear Bucks which award’s students for being balanced, showing effort, having a super attitude, being respectful, and safe. When students accrue enough bear bucks they may use them in the classroom to get a fun award, but I need some fun prizes in order to begin it. I love to use brightly colored anchor charts in my room, therefore having poster board and a place to store them when I have others up is essential. When we annotate the excerpts we read in class, we also annotate which requires different colors for the different parts of annotating which is why it would be so helpful to have a class set of color pencils; any illustrations that are needed to describe their writing would also require color pencils.
