These sets of graphic novel memoirs will enhance our study of world literature by providing students with a personalized lens into different historical war times. There are many reluctant readers as well as readers with lower reading levels who would benefit from... My goal is to combine a "book club" style experience with full-class reading and literature instruction. Students will choose between one of the two graphic novels. They will learn the structures of graphic novels and memoirs as a class, and participate in reading activities with their peers who are reading the same graphic novel. Students will also engage in class discussion to draw parallels from their novels, even with differing historical periods and geographical locations.
