Due to the pandemic, my students have lower reading scores than they should. The lowest scores were in the areas of vocabulary and recounting details from a story. By describing the importance of vocabulary, listing the related standards, and mentioning how your -potentially- donated items will help my students, a better understanding of my mission looms. Let's begin by examining the importance of vocabulary. Vocabulary serves as a bridge to future reading and understanding. One must be able to read vocabulary, build background, visualize details, and organize the events in a story in order to comprehend 2nd-grade literature and meet the academic standards L.2.6, RL.2.10, RI.2.10, and RF.2.4. Without this base in vocabulary, a future reading depth is a near impossibility. With your help, this obstruction will be cleared quickly. Let's examine the -specific- ways in which your donation/supplies will help my students. These students have faced enough shortcomings due to COVID-19. With your Expo Markers and erasers, my students will gain crucial practice writing sight words and focusing on the correct spelling -and meaning- of these words. Sight Word Bingo will help add an element of fun to this vocabulary word building as well. The headphones will help students listen to the stories I read, participate in iReady, and do so without disturbing other students. The pencils and pencil sharpeners will help my students write these sight and vocab words and become better readers. With your help, these young lives will change forever.
