Young children, especially low-income/at-risk students, struggle to regulate their emotions and identify their feelings. The Head Start philosophy teaches our students that learning starts in the heart. The study of educational psychology emphasizes that feeling safe, nurtured and loved is one of the most basic human needs. Without this need being met, young children are incapable of learning. This cozy flexible space in our classroom will help my students feel safe while giving them a place to regulate their emotions, relax and mentally prepare themselves to learn! Now more than ever, our young learners deserve the right to feel safe.
