As the counselor for a K-12 school, I do my best to promote career and college readiness from elementary through high school. I currently do academic plans for incoming 9th graders through 12th grade. I would like to create a quiet, distraction-free area in the counseling office for students to create academic portfolios beginning in 8th grade through 12th grade. Because of limited space in our school, I'd like to purchase a divider and resources for students to explore careers, complete interest inventories, create resumes, learn job interview questioning, college application/research. With the COVID pandemic and disruption of in-person learning and socialization, our students have struggled both academically and socially. I feel our students are behind socially and disconnected with future opportunities. My Zen-like career center will assist students with future goal planning; thus, producing goal-oriented students who feel attached to school and see opportunities for the future.
