Many of my first grade students spent kindergarten at home due to Covid. Because of that, my 1st-grade students have fallen behind on their writing, reading, and math skills. Having whiteboards, phonics games and math manipulatives amongst other tactile tools will allow my students to become better readers, writers, and better at formulating their ideas using proper penmanship as they are greatly motivated by these tools. They need many hands-on tools since they missed the opportunity to learn kinesthetically when they were online last year as kindergartners. Whiteboards will allow them to practice phonics and writing and math. They love using their whiteboards, but we don't have a complete class set, and we ran out of markers. The phonics cards will allow them to touch a word and sound it out. The other tools will like the microscope will spark their interest in science. Standard: RF.1.2 Demonstrate understanding of spoken words, syllables, and sounds (phonemes).
