Best practices include different types of learning strategies. Upper elementary students benefit greatly from working with peers, whether that is in small, medium, or large groups. Being able to safely place students in groups has been challenging in my current classroom. One of the interruptions that COVID created in schools is social development - safely placing students in groups to work with peers is critical in closing these gaps. Group work is key in developing global citizens, which is one of the goals described in our district's strategic plan. Student-centered learning requires students learning from each other.
