So many kids find it difficult to focus on school-related tasks. My class gives them tools to recognize their emotions and choose appropriate ways to handle these emotions. Things such as fidget toys and art supplies give students options for activities that will redirect their thoughts while they are being processed so that better choices can be made. These tools are also used as positive reinforcers when goals are achieved, giving students an incentive for making good decisions and using the tools they have gained to control their actions and emotions.
