The Mindful Hour Project will allow students to come together and participate in social-emotional learning (SEL) activities from the guidance curriculum. It will be an open safe space (counselor’s office) where students can visit voluntarily during their lunchtime for this academic school year for students who prefer a quieter place, unlike the noisy cafeteria. Participants will get the benefit of interacting with some of their peers while engaging in mindful interactions with guided activities by the guidance staff. Students will be given instructions for the day activity. Lessons will involve 10 minutes of facilitation / 35 minutes of student interactions working on activity (ex. Drawing a portrait of my best self., Learning decision-making steps, etc.). Participants will complete pre and post-assessment surveys identifying SEL competencies (self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills) covered in the lesson.
