Students in middle school who are English language learners need to work on speaking. Students chose Lumberjanes graphic novel as our next read. This story of incredible friendship between "Hardcore Lady Types" lends itself well for my second language learners to practice their speaking. Students can practice narrating, informing, explaining, and even arguing parts of the story. At the end of the reading, the students can take the graphic novel home. Unfortunately, many ELL students don't have the luxury of having their own libraries at home for many reasons.
