While online books during the pandemic were helpful, many of my low-income students did not have access to real books that they could hold in their hands. They couldn't linger over the pictures at their leisure and make connections to the books. I have tried to make up for that by sending as many real and tangible books at their level that I can send home for them to read to help make up for the difference. I need more high-quality books in my classroom library to send home to engage and inspire my students. Studies show that the amount of classroom books in a classroom library highly correlates to reading scores on standardized tests. The relationship is reciprocal. The larger the library the higher the reading test scores. These high-quality books would enhance my classroom library and the books I send home to students on a weekly basis.
