All of my requested materials will enhance interaction with the material and interaction between students within my classroom. I am requesting a DVD player and historical videos so that students can get to know people like Carnegie and Rockefeller, or soldiers from WWI or WWII not as cold references from within a textbook, but as dynamic living, breathing people who contributed to our nation and to our world in meaningful ways. I am requesting historical games to use as Stations within my classroom, as too often my students are reluctant to interact with one another or with the material for fear that what they have to say is "wrong." Playing a historical board game will be a non-threatening way to allow students to enter the world of history and see that it is fun and interesting. I will be able to use these games to address SS.9-12.WH.2. and SS.9-12.US.2., as students can use information from these games to "generate and answer supporting questions... through the inquiry process."
