This short story collection will be used for 'lit circles' (sort of like book groups) during the Genre Unit in my creative writing classes. Students will be able to pick a genre that interests them but, best of all, in this short story collection they will read about characters who reflect the culturally diverse classrooms they inhabit. What I love the most about this collection is that, while some stories are about challenges that focus on cultural conflict, sometimes it's just a sweet love story that happens to have a diverse cast. Just because racial/cultural conflict is part of your reality, it’s not your ENTIRE reality. After reading and discussing the story they selected with their lit circle, students will then write their own story or poem or script.
