One of the requirements we have within our Professional Development Evaluation is establishing a culture of safety and diversity. By providing alternative seating for students who have Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Anxiety, I not only meeting their emotional needs, but also their academic needs to be successful. This year, due to COVID, students are having a difficulty returning to a traditional classroom where everyone sits at desk in a regular chair. Some students learned while working from home that their couch, bed, or beanbag chair worked for them. I can relate to this given I work best at a Standing Desk or sometimes on a bouncing yoga ball. In addition, I have a high percentage of students with anxiety given they have been out of school for a few years. Providing Flexible Seating establishes and creates a caring accepting environment where all can learn!
