These funds will be used to address the needs of our ELL student population resulting from the impacts of COVID. Our students spent a year of distance learning at home, and as a result, some of our English Language (EL) Learners were the most negatively impacted. It is my goal to build a multicultural library of books and manipulatives for our ELL students to access while on campus and during their small group breakout sessions. These resources will help me to build my literacy library, and positively impact these students...The goals of these multicultural manipulatives are to give students from other countries tangible reflections of their cultures. We have students from Ethiopia, who speak Amharic, students from China, Russia, as well as other Eastern European countries. It's incredibly valuable for them to see reflections of themselves in the stories that they read. It is so important for these students to acquire the language skills necessary to be successful in school, and that happens in a K-5 setting.
I'm happy to be able to provide them these resources...
Thank you for your support with this! ~Ms. Jameson~
The multicultural read-alongs will allow for us to do literature circles and have the audio and visual components for our ELL students... Additionally, the written prompt cards will allow for journaling and discussion on a variety of culturally relevant topics.
